Coronavirus Impact: This Chart Shows Chinese Nowhere Near Back To Work

The Chinese are nowhere near back to work.

Travel restrictions and self-quarantining due to fear of catching the deadly coronavirus Covid-19 has just around 40% of Chinese workers back to making widgets on national assembly lines, based on data from the Baidu Migration Index.

Railway passenger flows are still down over 75% from where they were a year ago.

Some of China’s biggest cities are crawling back to work out of fear of an outbreak in places like Shanghai. Metro traffic is down 79% in the city, which is low but is a 10 percentage point improvement over the last five days.    [FULL  STORY]
